Jul 04, 2013 Diabetes mellitus Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the pancreas are unable to produce the hormone insulin which helps in the regulation of blood sugar level by storing excessive glucose present in the body. They are of two types: type I- which is early onset diabetes or insulin dependent, occurs very early as name suggests. The pancreas are unable to produce insulin and hence the person is dependent over exogenous forms of it. Type II-it also know as late onset diabetes or non-insulin dependent diabetes, in which the pancreas are producing very small quantity of insulin due to burning out of the cells or the target tissues have reduced sensitivity to insulin and hence exogenous forms have to be given. There are different ways of managing these types of diabetes depending upon their manifestation and cause.
