  • Vitamin C Sources

Vitamin C is a Water Soluble vitamin. It is also known as ascorbic acid.Main sources of Vitamin C are citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges. Other good sources of Vitamin C include red and green peppers, broccoli and strawberries.Vitamin C is required for the biosynthesis of collagen, L-carnitine and certain neurotransmitters. It is also involved in protein metabolism. Collagen is an essential component of connective tissue and is used in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an important antioxidant and it has shown to regenerate other antioxidants in the body. Antioxidants play a role in preventing aging and also delaying certain cancers and cardiovascular disease

A deficiency of Vitamin C results in a condition known as scurvy. As collagen is not properly produced, scurvy is characterized by sore and spongy gums, loose teeth, fragile blood vessels, swollen joints and anemia.
