Increased blood pressure, a problem that affects most of the population due to stress and poor dietary habit, is one of the adverse effects of high sodium levels. Due to increase in the sodium level, water is retained. Water retention causes bloating and increase in weight. Therefore the whole cycle of water retention causes increase in the blood pressure and hence leads to other problems with passing time such as heart attacks, strokes and congestive heart failure.
