  • Green Tea and Your Body

When it comes to food, there is a lot more than meets the eye, or the taste buds. Food is an amazing part of our world. Besides the enjoyment we get from eating, there is its ability to help the body cope and heal. That’s where green tea comes in. Tea has a variety of health benefits and there seems to be a new one discovered everyday. Green tea contains a nutrient known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This workhouse of a nutrient does not rest once it enters the body making green tea one of the beverages you should start drinking if you aren't already. Here are some reasons why:

    • It can help fight aging: EGCG appears to be much more potent than vitamin E at destroying skin-damaging free radicals. Free radicals react with healthy cells in the body, causing damage so lessening their numbers may help reduce wrinkling and other signs of aging. Free radical can also affect other parts of the body besides skin but because EGCG is a strong nutrient it can positively impact a lot more than skin cells.

    • It keeps energy stable by balancing blood sugar levels. EGCG improves insulin use in the body, and prevents the breakdown of starch by the mouth and pancreas to prevent blood sugar spikes and crashes that can result in fatigue, irritability, and cravings for unhealthy foods. Drinking Green tea while eating your breakfast bagel can help prevent that spike and keep you fueled throughout the day.

    • It improves brain function: Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee, but enough to produce an effect. It also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which can work in synergy with caffeine to improve brain function.

These aren't the only reasons to drink green tea. Besides it’s great taste, tea has a plethora of ways it can help our body function efficiently. Most experts recommend three cups daily, so drink up!
